Sometimes some artists have their distribution spread across multiple albums. Initially I included only the top albums from an artist, but eventually added a couple other substantial albums* in order to illustrate an artist's overall strength in my library, as well as a way of comparing how much I might have listened to a particular album by the artist. For example, I really like Maroon 5's album Songs About Jane, which is #21, whereas their album It Won't Be Soon Before Long is only #122.
Surprises out of this analysis:
Tristan Prettyman's t w e n t y t h r e e finally surpassed Jack Johnson's In Between Dreams. Though to be fair, I listened to his music a lot prior to using Last.fm and his album numbers should technically be higher.
*"Substantial" here is defined as having greater than approximately 20 scrobbles. This cutoff is meant to avoid including albums that accumulate plays by random chance (e.g., via radio). In other words, since most albums have about 10 tracks, then having 20 scrobbles could be achieved by accidentally listening to the album twice, but the assumption is that such an occurrence is unlikely.
