First listen.
WTF is this... ("Christmas Ding Dong"); This was initially interesting but kind of fell off ("Hey Rudy")
Same as "Hey Rudy"; kind of sounds good and has potential, but seems like a waste of talent ("You'll Be There")
Hehe. It took a couple of repeats of the chorus before I realized the song was about COVID booster shot ("It was a... (Masked Christmas)") [oh the song was actually released 20211207 during COVID; some other songs were also written in 2021]
Again a failure to be great. Should have leaned into "Weird Al"'s parody style
hahaha "Well you can't spell 'Glove' without letter 'G'"
haha. these tropes are good ("Hallmark Movie")
Songs in bold are the bonus tracks on the deluxe edition.
3: "Wrap Me Up" (with Meghan Trainor); "It Was A... (Masked Christmas)" (ft. Ariana Grande and Megan Thee Stallion); "Almost Too Early for Christmas" (with Dolly Parton);
2: "Holiday" (with Jonas Brothers); "How You Know It's Christmastime"; "Chipmunks & Chestnuts"; "One Glove" (with Will Ferrell); "Hallmark Movie" (with Cara Delevingne);
1: "Hey Rudy" (with The Roots); "You'll Be There" (with Justin Timberlake); "Merry Happy Christmas" (with Chelsea Handler); "Weird Cousin";
0: "New Year's Eve Polka (5-4-3-2-1)" (with "Weird Al" Yankovic and The Roots); "Coquito"; "Thanksgiving Eve";
-1: "Christmas Ding Dong";
Summary:
Overall, the album is full of missed opportunities and short of being absolutely amazing. With the connections Fallon has, this album could have easily been top-tier. However, I guess Fallon instead chose to stick to his roots and lean the album towards being a comedy album. As such, while the album has some top-notch pop hits, I don't like the album as a whole.
I had to relisten to "Wrap Me Up" and "It Was A... (Masked Christmas)". After listening to them again, while "It Was A... (Masked Christmas)" was good, "Wrap Me Up" was a better use of the talent. Which is unfortunate, because I was expecting a song with Ariana Grande to be a guaranteed hit (it does have the most plays on the album, but it was also released back in 2021, while "Wrap Me Up" has the second most plays and was released in 2023).
Overall Rating: 3.0/5
Favorite Song: "Wrap Me Up"
