The repetition of "Needle in the Hay" is a little odd at first. But the flow of the music is what catches my attention ("Needle in the Hay")
This sound and music definitely has 90s vibes. Well, if I didn't know it was from the 90s, I'd definitely pin it at 90s or perhaps early 2000s. In particular, I would say the first group that popped into my head in terms of sound was Dashboard Confessional - specifically the band's song "Hands Down"; Dashboard Confessional formed in 1999.
Love those guitar string scrapes. Very raw sound.

Summary:
Overall, I was able to appreciate the music, but I didn't feel strongly about looking into the lyrics. The listening experience took the singing in a more intuitive sense - that is more for the harmony with the guitar sound. However, I think at this point, most of the 90s music I enjoy is more out of nostalgia, i.e., music that I have already heard. With that being said, I could imagine enjoying this album more with some more listens. Actually, it's not just the time period, but I think this particular genre is further away from my current music tastes than it would have been when I was in graduate school (2008-2014).
