Matt and Kim - Sidewalks (2010)

Reason for Listening:
Cycling back on some artists I've listened to in 2021. Decided to start with Matt and Kim.
Prior to 2021, this album had 88 scrobbles, with 30 scrobbles for "Silver Tiles", 21 for "Cameras", and 13 for "Block After Block". The bulk of scrobbles occurred from 2011 to 2015.

First listen.
A large part of my being is recording pieces of my life. I'm not sure where it originated, but it's occurred on and off ever since I was a kid. This music blog is a particular manifestation of that behavior. In any case, I take many pictures as a large part of that recording process. Getting to the point, I like the sentiment of this song ("Cameras") and there are definitely times in life worth savoring without recording, but I couldn't ever give up the process of recording my thoughts.
Second listen.
Make some adjustments to refine the rating of songs.
There's something about these lyrics which I really like: "We sing along, but the notes are wrong" ("Good For Great"); in "Get It" (New Glow 2015) they also sing "We all sing along, but the notes are wrong"
4: "Silver Tiles";
3: "Block After Block";
2: "Cameras"; "Good For Great"; "Wires";
1: "AM/FM Sound"; "Where You're Coming From";
0: "Red Paint"; "Northeast";

Summary:
This is a solid album with some of my favorite tracks by Matt and Kim, namely "Silver Tiles" and "Block After Block". Interestingly, neither of these tracks makes it into their top 10 on Spotify. Apparently, "Cameras" is the more popularly favored track from Sidewalks (rank 6 on the top 10).

Overall Rating: 5.2/5

20210918 Comment:
I previously rated the album (along with many of their other albums) in the post-festival thoughts section of my Matt and Kim Firefly 2015 post. I've include the ratings here (converting from Firefly 2015 to Revised 2015).

6: "Silver Tiles"*;
5: "Block After Block"*;
4: None
3: "Good For Great";
2: "Cameras"; "Wires";
1: "AM/FM Sound"; "Where You're Coming From";
0: "Red Paint"; "Northeast"; "Ice Melts";

While the numbers have changed slightly, the relative positions of the songs have remained the same. In particular, in my recent listen, I liked "Good For Great" and "Wires" more than "Cameras", but how "Good For Great" and "Wires" compared took some thought. After a couple of listens, I concluded that I do have a greater preference for "Good For Great".
