Tristan Prettyman - Cedar + Gold (2012)

Reason for Listening:
Catching up with old favorites: Tristan Prettyman is my #4 all-time scrobbled artist.

"The Rebound" was on my Top 32 Songs (2014 Edition). I scrobbled the song 23 times from 2013 to 2018 (9, 8, 4, 1, 0, 1). As a runner-up, I've scrobbled "Say Anything" a total of 10 times.

Today I scrobbled this album on Last.fm. This is the only source of scrobbles prior to 2020 (i.e., before Jan 1, 2020) for 8 out of 12 songs.

Second listen.
Huh. I didn't realize "Say Anything" is from this album.
I'm not sure what I think of how this song ends ("My Oh My")
I absolutely love the playfulness and the sexual innuendos in this song ("The Rebound");

3: "Say Anything"; "The Rebound";
2: "Second Chance"; "I Was Gonna Marry You"; "Quit You"; "Glass Jar"; "When You Come Down";
1: "My Oh My"; "Deepest Ocean Blue";
0: "Bad Drug"; "Come Clean";

Summary:
The emotions captured in this album are real and relatable - which entirely makes sense given the context of the album. In addition, the album has the same simplicity and warmth which I enjoyed from the artist's first album, t w e n t y t h r e e. I would guess the same goes for the second album, Hello...X, which I've heard several times (as recorded by Last.fm), but interestingly I cannot recall how any of those songs sound. In any case, Cedar + Gold centers around a clear theme and ties together better than most albums. One doesn't have to be in the middle or the aftermath of a break-up to enjoy it, but may find additional comfort from the album given the case.

I really like "The Rebound." Perhaps it's easy for many to view "Say Anything" as being a better song. If not better, it's the more serious of the two and somehow that has a way of implying that it requires more talent to write and/or perform. My intuition here was to override my personal preference for "The Rebound" and place "Say Anything" as my favorite. However, I realized that's just silly and would contradict the facts (23 scrobbles for "The Rebound" versus 10 scrobbles for "Say Anything").

Overall Rating: 5.0/5
Favorite Song: "The Rebound"
Second Favorite Song: "Say Anything"
