Summary:
This was the first time I listened to any of Lil Baby's work and overall I was underwhelmed. In particular, perhaps I had high expectation given the album's spot at the top of the Billboard 200 (with the week of 20200711 being it's fifth at the number one spot).
Reflecting on my personal taste in music, I often pay attention to a song's lyrics and/or how it feels (e.g., does it have a good sound, does it make me want to dance, do I want to sing along); I will almost certainly enjoy a song that excels in either attribute or a balance of the two.
With My Turn, the lyrics were difficult for me to understand without aid. As such, most of the songs sound like they're talking about the same thing. It's possible Lil Baby mentions Cartier in at least four of the songs. In addition to listening without aid, I also looked up lyrics for a handful of songs. Overall, I found the lyrics to be simple and uninteresting.
With respect to the feel, most of the songs across the album sound similar and individually they lacked a sense of range. Furthermore, I felt as if Lil Baby has yet to find an exceptionally distinguishable sound.
