I listened to some of the songs on this album when I was in middle school and/or high school (it's also possible I might have listened to the album in it's entirety). Thinking about it now, with respect to my general tastes in music over the years, I can't remember exactly why. I do, however, remember having some friends who liked heavy metal and so I might have been influenced by them.

This album is "commonly known as The Black Album." (Wikipedia)

First listen.
Prior to seeing the title today, I think I heard it as "Sand Patrol."
While listening to this album, I tried to keep in mind that a "0" should represent average. I think I've been letting the ratings drift upward during the month of December. With that being said, it's hard to maintain an idea of average when listening to what is deemed by the majority to be the best - as measured by sales.

Songs in bold are the bonus tracks on the deluxe edition.
4: "Enter Sandman";
3: "Nothing Else Matters";
2: "Sad But True"; "The Unforgiven";
1: "Wherever I May Roam"; "My Friend of Misery";
0: "Holier Than Thou"; "Through the Never"; "Of Wolf And Man"; "The God That Failed"; "The Struggle Within";
-1: "Don't Tread On Me";

Summary:
I was surprised by the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed the album even though it is a heavy metal music. In addition, I was surprised that some of the tracks sounded "normal." I guess at the end of the day, what I learned was not to judge an album by it's genre.

Overall Rating: 4.8/5
Favorite Song: "Enter Sandman"
