First listen.
I'm surprised "Intro" is an actual song.
I like the artist's pace and flow, but I heard a lot of the N-word. From a cultural point of view, many would say it shouldn't be used at all. From an artistic point of view, artists should reconsider using it excessively. In "Off The Rip," DaBaby uses the word 21 times - 5 of which are just tacked onto the end of the sentence.
Hmm. My previous comment concerned the usage of the N-word in hip-hop. One could similarly criticize the usage of the word "bitch." Culturally, it's usage as meaning "women" is inappropriate. Artistically, it's usage is excessive.
"There He Goes" is an example of a song where DaBaby uses the word "bitch" ten times - 4 of which are just tacked onto the end of the sentence.
Songs which caught my attention: None;
Summary:
I feel kind of bad listening to all these hip-hop albums and being turned off by their language and/or themes. With that being said, I listened to all the tracks on this album in full (unlike what I did with Lil Tecca's album We Love You Tecca*).
Overall Rating: 1/5
Favorite Song: None
*I seldom listen to hip-hop and I first thought about the usage of the N-word in music while listening to Lil Tecca's album. At the time, I figured I should skip a song the moment I heard the N-word. However, I later realized that the word was just widely used and perhaps I could just listened to the album in full while commenting on the word's usage on a track-to-track basis.
