One summer my family and I went to visit relatives in Arizona. While we had flown several times in the past, this summer we decided to travel by car. For a large portion of the five-or-so hour drive, this album, 1 (One), was playing. My sister tells me it's a reason she's not a big fan of The Beatles.

"Yellow Submarine" is either a "3" or a "4."
After finishing the album, I re-listened to songs which I had marked a "5" ("Yesterday"; "Hello, Goodbye"; "Hey Jude"; "Let It Be";) and a "4" ("Eight Days A Week"; "Day Tripper"; "Eleanor Rigby"; "Come Together";). As I listened I tried to get a feel for how I like the songs relative to each other. The result was the following order from best to worst (though not meant to be strictly conclusive): "LIB," "Y," "ER," "HJ," "EDAW," "HG," "CT," and "DT." As such I moved "Let It Be" from a "5" to a "6," "Hello, Goodbye" from a "5" to a "4," and "Eleanor Rigby" from a "4" to a "5."

6: "Let It Be";
5: "Yesterday"; "Eleanor Rigby"; "Hey Jude";
4: "Eight Days A Week"; "Day Tripper"; "Hello, Goodbye"; "Come Together";
3: "She Loves You"; "Help!"; "Yellow Submarine";
2: "Love Me Do"; "From Me To You"; "I Want To Hold Your Hand"; "I Feel Fine"; "All You Need Is Love"; "Get Back";
1: "Can't Buy Me Love"; "A Hard Day's Night"; "Ticket To Ride"; "We Can Work It Out"; "Lady Madonna"; "The Ballad Of John and Yoko"; "Something";
0: "Paperback Writer"; "Penny Lane"; "The Long And Winding Road";

Summary:
A part of me thinks that I practically assigned random numbers between 1 and 5 as ratings to most of these songs. Though perhaps it's more accurate to say that most songs are probably rated within 1 of their long-term average, where the long-term average is defined as the number the song would get if I took the average of many "independent" ratings. Then the remaining songs are probably within 2 of their long-term average.

Although I'm not familiar with the entire works of The Beatles, I know them well enough to know all the songs on this album (and I should at least know the songs on this album because I've actually listened to the album itself many times before). As with the last album I listened to, American Teen by Khalid, I'll probably have to do a second blind listen one day if I wanted to narrow down the song ratings and/or album rating. In any case, having listened to this album and the songs before, I have naturally rated these songs higher than I would have if I had listened to them for the first time - a familiarity bias. Up until this point I just let it be. I think it's appropriate to assign the first 5 to this album.

I reassessed the top eight rated songs and from that chose my favorite to be "Let It Be." Prior to the reassessment, I had rated the song a "5." After the reassessment, I gave it a "6." If I recall, I thought about giving it a "6" while listening to the album.

Overall Rating: 5.0/5
Favorite Song: "Let It Be"
Second Favorite Song: "Yesterday"
Third Favorite Song: "Eleanor Rigby"
